What is the difference between a credit card and a student loan? Answer: you cannot declare bankruptcy on a student loan. If your high school counselor didn’t tell you that, he is just a shill for Sallie Mae. Also some types of debt such as student loans and child support don’t require a judgment for collection.

it is sad to see our children leave the home, going to college is part of growing up, and part of dealing with life on your own. our son is lucky,we still support him in college, but the idea is for him to deal with life and it’s responsibilities. one step of it was that we cancelled his contract phone and go him a prepaid.a nice one with qwerty, video, camera..he got a phone from net10 with 300 min to start off with. from then on it is 10c a min or 3c a text. can’t wait to see if he manages….

part of leaving home to go to college is to learn about more than math. it’s about learning to deal with life. money managem is one important thing to learn aswell. i find having a prepaid phone helps the student with their money troubles. they know up front what to budget for, much better than the shock at monthend getting your contract bill. with net10 you even get 300 free minutes when you buy a phone to help get started, having to get. new books, clothes etc when you go back to college.

@conservative608 No he isn’t. I’ve had a credit card since I was 18 and have never paid a dime in interest or penalties. Just don’t charge what you can’t pay back. Bunch of fools

You know I was reading these comments and as a college studnet myself… I have had to make sooo many sacrifices. If people are looking for options you can do the net10 that the person below wrote about. But that is more minute by minute. I do the net10 unlimited because I need to talk and text for studying and just social reasons a lot. Its only 50 dollars a month> I cant imagine anything with lower costs. I assume the phones are the same in perminute/pertext and if so… that is just fantasti

    US Bank
    Wells Fargo
    Bank of America
a total of 30,000 in credit. But I have only put about 500 in them total. Oh and I am 25. I have also purchase a new Honda Civic 2010. It’s people fault that they can’t handle their credit cards.

I suppose that colleges are not interested that their students learn about personal money management or they might realize that the whole college/student loan business is very dangerous and often a terrible return on investment. Much better to keep the students in the dark, and have them take out mega loan to pay for overpriced colleges.
